Ielts vs Toefl

The two main tests that check English language competence “are IELTS and TOEFL. Though both studies are aimed at exploring the students' knowledge and understanding of the use of English, the two are not the same means and differs in both supply Scoring and difficulty.

TOEFL - The main similarity between IELTS and TOEFL tests in the fact that they test students in three areas, plus one additional skill. Three such areas of skills are writing, reading and listening. Difference is spoken in IELTS and "structure” (sentence completion and error recognition) in TOEFL.

In calculating the results differ as well. IELTS tests are evaluated by the "band” points (from 0 to 9 and a half - between strips) that are given to each section of the test and then averaged for the band score IELTS. The latter is used by universities and institutes in recognition premise. In figure TOEFL scores are assigned to different parts of the test and then the amount of the final score TOEFL.

A more important difference between IELTS and TOEFL tests is that the latter has its own computer - based version of the paper and making it easier for students to choose the type of test and the time and place of its completion that suits those best most. However IELTS develops computer version of the test, do not have to use more. Also, speaking module must be completed in person in a way or a high degree of technological development.

The final critical question that bothers the huge number of test takers, which of the two is more difficult. There is no definite satisfactory answer because it depends on the knowledge and preparation of test. However; it is generally believed that IELTS is more difficult because of their speaking section in which students are required to participate in something like an interview with a professional in person. Moreover, unlike the test TOEFL, IELTS does not define strict accuracy criteria which are assessed for self-expression tasks of writing and speaking and listening and reading tasks tend to contain plenty of "difficult" issues, as told by both teachers and students.

However, such a question (which test is more difficult ) is largely irrelevant, since most educational institutions to clearly indicate what test students must take in order to enroll in this university , which means that students usually know what you need to prepare and do not waste their time by developing fear speaking or any other test section . Practice and confidence always bring the most fruitful results.
