Word Families

With this knowledge it is possible to identify more words of the root "CRED" and other words with the suffix “as visible”, thereby increasing their vocabulary.

Confusing Words

Difficult areas for non-native English speakers are idioms and homonyms. Idiomatic expressions are those whose meaning has evolved over time, so as a phrase meaning is fairly different. For example, someone says it is “tied” to the office does not mean tied to a chair but rather delayed. People taking a TOEFL should be able to recognize this effect and even use idioms correctly. Homonyms refer to words that are spelled the same but have different meanings. Season, for example, can mean a time like autumn or add flavoring such as salt. Homophones are words that sound the similar but are spelled differently, such as “great” and “array”. TOEFL tests for both of them in a section of the read.
